There is an appealing story to the Cambodia casinos that sit just over the border from neighboring Thailand, in which gambling den wagering is not allowed. Eight gambling halls are based in a relatively tiny location in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling dens is in an excellent area, a 3 to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest betting centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The astonishing income gained from the gambling dens ranges from $7.5 million to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a couple of controls constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is assumed to be largely Thai; still, financial sources are ambiguous. The borders are formally open from 09:00 to 17:00, and though visas are supposedly required to pass, there are means around this, as is true of many borders.
The 1st Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only 1 gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored boat casino, highlights 150 slot machines and 60 table games. The Naga gambling den never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, 4 tables of twenty-one, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The 1st gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon followed. A total of 150 one armed bandits and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machine games and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 slot machines and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machine games and 96 table games, including 87 baccarat chemin de fer (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and 66 of the common tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 casinos in Poipet, again a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slots and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an international resort and hotel complex that highlights a number of luxuries accompanying the casino, which houses ten thousand sq.ft. of 130 slot machines and 88 tables.
